Nuts in May by Mike LeighNuts in May by Mike Leigh

It was so sunny today I sat in the garden. Fancy that! Springtime is here, which means summer is just round the corner, and if there isn’t something that all British people have in common, is a love for summer sunshine and long days. I mean, it’s no secret that we Brits are OBSESSED with the weather. I reckon on a daily basis, I have at least one conversation about the state of the weather and how it is affecting my day. I can hear myself sometimes rattling on about the rain or the sun, and I think, bloody heck Claire, you’re so typical, you’re a typical Brit, a little bit camp and mundane just like every other British person who has these conversations to fill the void of silence. We feel the need to talk, so why not talk about the ever changing…

From the depths of obscurity comes creativity

Interesting blog .

Fauvecollective

In a picturesque corner of Kent, that’s where Fauve Collective started out – not a particularly thrilling, or glamorous place but rather somewhere you might like to retire.

It would seem that when you’re subjected to the sluggish suburbs of England, creativity can provide solace to the tedium and occasionally exciting things will happen. In this post, Claire Cullen AKA KitschReligion tells a little bit more of where the foundations for Fauve were formed.

Broadstairs in Thanet Broadstairs in Thanet

The Isle of Thanet. An obscure place. It once was separate to England by two miles of water, known as the Wantsum Channel. Over the course of last millennium the Island joined with Kent, so its name – Isle of Thanet – is pretty obsolete.

The last few decades has seen Thanet’s former glory, as a hotspot for holiday makers, rapidly decline – as tourism, money and jobs have become scarce. Despite its noteworthy…

15 times when Jeremy Corbyn was on the right side of history

The World Turned Upside Down

jezza aparted1. Apartheid: Jeremy was a staunch opponent of the Apartheid regime and a supporter of Nelson Mandela and the ANC. He was even arrested for protesting outside the South African embassy in 1984.
2. Chile: Jeremy was an opponent of the brutal dictator Pinochet (an ally of the British government under Thatcher) and was a leading campaigner in the quest to bring him to justice. In 1998 Pinochet was arrested in London.
3. LGBT rights: As noted in Pink News, Jeremy was an early champion of LGBT rights. At a time when the Tories decried supporting LGBT rights as ‘loony left’, Jeremy voted against section 28 which sought to demonise same-sex relationships.
4. The Miners’ Strike: Jeremy went against the Labour leadership and fully supported the miners in their effort to prevent the total destruction of their industry and communities. Cabinet papers released last year prove that the NUM…

Kitsch Religion talks to IDOL

Fauvecollective

Besides working together, some of the Fauve Collective members also grew up together. For this post, Claire (Kitsch Religion) talks to her younger (but much taller) brother Declan (IDOL) about song writing, childhood memories and his favourite pop songs.

KitschReligion: Hey Declan, how’s it going?

Declan Cullen – IDOL: I’m alright thanks, how are you?

KR: I’m good thanks. So you’ve been working on a new project – I.D.O.L, it would be great to know a little more about the concept behind this and you’re influences.

DC: Of course. The initial intention of the music project was to start a group with a really strong sense of identity, style and direction, and I just wanted to write really great pop songs, albeit, with a rock and roll style. I feel that music is getting very complicated, and within the industry sometimes things can be too politically motivated – however…
